CDB scientists awarded MEXT prizes

April 11, 2011 –CDB Group Director Shigeru Kuratani, and Yasuhide Ohinata, a research scientist in the Pluripotent Stem Cell Studies Project lab (Hitoshi Niwa, Project Leader), have been honored with Awards from the Minister of MEXT (the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) for the accomplishments in scientific research.

Kuratani was noted for his career of achievements in comparative vertebrate evolutionary developmental biology, while Ohinata was recognized for studies conducted while he was a member of the former CDB Laboratory for Germ Cell Biology (Mitinori Saitou, Team Leader; now at Kyoto University, in which he contributed greatly to the understanding of germline formation in the early embryo and its recapitulation in vitro.
