Research Field

We seek outstanding candidates who wish to study fundamental mechanisms of animal morphogenesis using cutting edge techniques of bio imaging and molecular genetics of Drosophila in one of the following three topics. 1) Mechanics of epithelial tissue morphogenesis (Kondo and Hayashi, Nature 2013), 2) Epithelial tube geometry control by interaction of cell and extracellular environment (Dong, Hannezo and Hayashi, Cell Reports 2014), 3) Cell shape coordination by supercellular actin structure (Hannezo et al, PNAS 2015). Scientists who have unique strength in cell and developmental biology, bio imaging, or physics/mathematics are welcome. Previous experience in Drosophila is not required, but candidates are expected to interact productively with members of this and other groups in the CDB.


Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree before the date of recruitment.

Salary and benefits

Full-time position with an annually renewable contract up to 5 years based on the evaluation. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Commuting and housing allowances will be provided. Social insurance will be applied. Mandatory membership in the RIKEN Mutual Benefit Society (RIKEN Kyosaikai). Days off include weekends, public holidays, New Year’s holidays (Dec. 29 – Jan 3), and RIKEN Foundation Day. These and other provisions are in accordance with RIKEN regulations.
