October 16, 2006 – The Japanese Crown Prince, His Highness Hironomiya, visited the RIKEN CDB on Sunday, October 15. After being greeted by RIKEN President Ryoji Noyori and Hiroo Imura , director of the Foundation for Biomedical Research and Innovation (FBRI), His Highness was given a brief introduction to the Center’s mission and organization. He next visited the mock laboratory in the CDB Gallery to view exhibits of chicken embryogenesis, human embryonic stem cells, and planarian regeneration. CDB Director Masatoshi Takeichi next led a demonstration of micromanipulation of mouse embryos, and answered a question on the genetic level differences between humans and mice. The Prince then tried his hand at the micromanipulator simulation before departing the Center.
