Speaker Profile

Kazuo Yamagata


Kazuo Yamagata received his Ph.D. in 2000 from the University of Tsukuba Graduate School of Agriculture. He worked at as a JSPS postdoctoral research fellow at the same institution until 2001, and then moved to Osaka University to take a postdoctoral position for another year. In 2003, he returned to the University of Tsukuba as an assistant professor at the Graduate School of Life and Environmental Science, where he remained until 2007. He currently works as a research scientist in the Laboratory of Genomic Reprogramming at RIKEN Center for Developmental Biology in Kobe, Japan.

His research interest lies in identifying the mechanisms for maintaining genetic/epigenetic stability during mammalian preimplantation development and its applications to human reproduction. He is also engaged in the development of technology for live-cell imaging of embryos, including microscopes and analysis tools.
