Pierre-François Lenne

Pierre-François Lenne studied physics at the University of Paris and École Normale Supérieure of Paris, France, before completing his PhD in soft matter physics at the University of Grenoble, France (1998).

After postdoctoral research in the cell biology and biophysics unit of EMBL (Heidelberg, Germany), he joined in 2000 the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) at the Fresnel Institute in Marseille, where he developed and applied biophysical approaches to understand the dynamics of cell surfaces, using photonic structures in particular.

Group leader at the Institute for Developmental Biology of Marseille (IBDM) and research director at CNRS since 2009, his current research focuses on cell mechanics in the context of tissue morphogenesis. He is author of 50 articles published in physics/optics (Phys. Rev. Lett, Appl. Phys. Lett…), biology (Nat. Cell. Bio., Embo J, Cur. Bio…) and interdisciplinary (Nature, PNAS…) journals.
