Stefano Piccolo

Stefano Piccolo is Professor of Molecular Biology at the University of Padova School of Medicine. As a Postdoctoral Fellow with Eddy De Robertis at HHMI-UCLA, he unveiled how extracellular antagonism to growth factors is a key mechanism by which neural tissues are induced by the Spemann organizer.

His laboratory now studies how cells sense their environment and use this information to build and maintain tissues with specific form, size and function. His lab is also interested in how disruption of these homeostatic mechanisms leads to tumor formation, progression and metastasis, hoping to identify new routes for the treatment of cancers.
