Yusuke Toyoda

Yusuke Toyoda received his M.Sc. in 2001 and his Ph.D. in 2004 from Kyoto University, where he was interested in mechanisms control in cell division. After his postdoctoral training at the same university, he moved to Dr. Tony Hyman’s laboratory at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, Germany in 2006. There, he happened to have an opportunity to do an RNAi screen using an atomic force microscopy, to search for genes that generate cellular pressure during mitosis. While he was studying the most unexpected screen hit, the Parkinson's disease-related DJ-1/Park7, the connection among cell division, mechanics, and metabolism has become fascinating. In September 2014, he was appointed assistant professor at the Institute of Life Science, Kurume University in Kurume, Japan.
