Manuel Serrano is a researcher at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO), in Madrid, and Director of the Molecular Oncology Program of the CNIO. After completing his studies in Biology and Ph.D. in Madrid, he joined the laboratory of David Beach, at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, NY, USA, as a postdoctoral fellow from 1992 to 1996. The main contributions of the Serrano´s laboratory are related to the concept of oncogene-induced senescence and the anti-aging activity of tumor suppressors. More recently, Serrano´s group has reported on the relevance of tumor suppressors during reprogramming to iPS cells, and it has demonstrated the feasibility of embryonic reprogramming within live adult organisms.
