Daniel Goldman

Daniel Goldman is a Research Professor in the Molecular & Behavioral Neuroscience Institute and Professor of Biological Chemistry at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois in 1983, where he studied bacterial chemotaxis under the direction of George Ordal. He then joined the lab of Steve Heinemann at the Salk Institute as a postdoctoral fellow where he applied the techniques of molecular neurobiology to investigate activity-dependent mechanisms underlying neuromuscular junction formation. In 1986 he was recruited to the University of Michigan where his lab investigates neuromuscular regeneration, optic nerve regeneration and retina regeneration. His lab takes advantage of the robust regenerative powers of zebrafish to uncover mechanisms underlying optic nerve and retina regeneration.
