Carina Hanashima

Carina Hanashima received her M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Waseda University School of Science and Engineering. She worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Eseng Lai at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center from 1999, where she was engaged in developmental neuroscience. She moved to Developmental Genetics Program at Skirball Institute in 2002, where she extended her research to address the molecular mechanisms of cell fate specification in the cerebral cortex. She was appointed team leader at the RIKEN CDB in 2007. Her laboratory uses mouse models to decipher the process by which the diverse neurons of the cerebral cortex are generated and integrated to form a functional cortical circuit.
