The RIKEN CDB-QBiC Joint Symposium is entitled "Towards Innovation in Developmental Cell Biology: The Impact of Emerging Technologies." The aim of this symposium is to address how we can understand complex and important biological questions by bringing together experts and young scientists from the fields of biology, biophysics, optics, and computational biology.

The topics include the following:

- Advanced light microscopy (light-sheet microscopy, super-resolution microscopy, cell lineage analysis using unlabeled animals and nonlinear microscopy, electron microscope tomography, etc.)

- Biophysics (single molecule imaging, optical tweezers, etc.)

- Computational biology (cellular structure formation modeling, molecular behavioral simulations, etc.)

- Multidimensional cell culture techniques for analysis of disease pathogenesis, organogenesis and regeneration.

We hope this meeting will serve to foster active discussions and interactions between the leaders in these fields and the promising younger scientists.

Young scientists are encouraged to send in digital data of scientific images and movies for an on-site contest. The data will be shown continuously throughout the symposium and a vote will be held during the reception on June 30 (Day 1). Details can be found here.

We look forward to seeing you in Kobe.
